§ 17.24.060. Fire limits, permit required.

    All that part of the city of Juneau designated by ordinance before the effective date of this section as the fire limits of the city of Juneau for the purposes and regulations set forth in this section.

    B.

    Description of Fire Limits. Start at intersection of Oak and Main then south to Water Tower Alley; then east to Fair Street; then north on both sides of Fair Street to Oak Street; then west, both sides of Oak Street to Main; then north, both sides of Main Street to Center Street; then east, both sides of Center to Miller Street; then south, both sides of Miller to Oak Street.

    C.

    No person shall hereafter erect or place, or cause to be erected or placed, or assist in erecting or placing, on any portion of the fire limits above described any building or structure unless the same shall be built of brick, stone, concrete or concrete blocks, and the roof thereof covered with tin, or some other fireproof material, with stairs and scuttle leading to the same, nor shall any person remove or cause to be removed, or assist in removing any wooden building or buildings, from one location to another within the fire limits.

    D.

    No person shall hereafter erect, build or place, or cause to be erected, built or placed, any building or structure within the fire limits of the city without a written permit therefor to be issued by the city clerk-treasurer upon the order of the common council.

    E.

    Any person desiring to build, erect or place any building or structure within the fire limits of the city shall first make and file with the city clerk-treasurer of the city an application to the common council for permission to do so, which application shall contain the plan and specifications of the proposed building or structure, which plan and specifications shall specify particularly the kind of material to be used, the length, height and thickness of the external walls thereof, and the material of which such walls are to be built, and what opening(s), if any, are to be in the external walls and roof, and with what material such openings shall be covered, and of what material the roof shall be covered, and also a description of the lot upon which such building or structure is to be placed.

    F.

    No owner or occupant of any wooden building or buildings situated within the fire limits of the city of Juneau shall alter or repair the same to the value of one hundred dollars ($100.00) for such repairs, without first obtaining a permit to make such alterations or repairs from the common council but no such permit shall be granted where the alterations or repairs desired to be made shall be more than twenty (20) percent of the value of such building before such alterations or repairs are made.

    G.

    In every case when application is made for a permit for such alteration or repair, such application shall be in writing, and shall clearly and specifically set forth the nature, extent and estimated value of such alterations or repairs for which a permit is asked, and no alterations or repairs shall be made upon such building except in conformity thereto.
